Brussels Immanuel Sunday Service Meditates on the Prayer at Gethsemane

On March 19, Brussels Immanuel Church offered a graceful Sunday service to God with the scripture Mathew 26:31-46.

This sermon, delivered by Pastor Apollos Yoon, reflects on the importance of humility and trust in God, even in the face of adversity, by examining the contrasting scenes of Peter’s overconfidence and Jesus’ submission in the Garden of Gethsemane. Jesus’ prayers, crying out with tears and sorrow, show the importance of meeting God in times of loneliness and weakness. Despite facing immense pain and suffering, Jesus overcame with unwavering faith and obedience to God.

Then he preached the meaning of suffering in Christianity is different as it teaches resurrection through suffering, which Jesus exemplified by facing and accepting his cross. The sermon encourages Christians to approach God with faith and acknowledge their weaknesses, as relying solely on physical strength will lead to a shallow end like Peter’s.

In the end, Pastor Apollos concludes by urging Christians to embrace and love suffering, and to remember that there is true glory after it.
